Part 1 Part 2

Victoria Beach Snowdrifters putting federal funding into the designated trail system.

After the snow is gone and your snowmobile is put away until the snow arrives again, the Snoman member clubs are working hard to get the trails in top notch shape awaiting your return. The following is an account of one club’s efforts and the funding they received from the National Trails Coalition (NTC), a federal funding program for recreational trails.

The Victoria Beach Snowdrifters NTC project ($32,400 of which 50% was contributed by the club) was started in July 2009 with completion by Dec. 2009. It entailed removing overhanging brush on the North Star trail, widening trails and brushing corners for better visibility and safety. Also dangerous rocks were removed. Some work was done on the Ridge trail as well. In all we calculated approx. 31 km of improvement. Safety for riders was our big concern - the grant allowed us to complete these upgrades in one year - which would have been spread over many years without the grant (5 local contractors were hired creating 9 jobs - 42 days of employment).

Please read the attached news release from the office of James Bezan – MP Selkirk/Interlake and his attendance at the project announcement.

Maps for 2009/2010 season

Our snowmobile trail maps are updated and printed. We have put the Manitoba Snowmobile Facts on the back for those days on the trails when you've got a minute to pull out the map and do a little reading. They also contain information on hand signals, trail signage definitions and information related to snowmobiling in Manitoba. They will be made available to all Snopass purchasers and can be picked up when you buy your Snopass at any MPI agent.
