November 2018 Newsletter
On November 2 & 3 Snoman held its AGM and 8th Annual Congress and it was a great success again this year. It was good to visit with the snowmobilers from across the province. There were youth who participated in the Snoman Snow Scooters session. The workshops held were: Snowmobile Safety with STARS and the RCMP, Solara, Trail Signing, Club Presidents, Facebook, and Interactive maps.
There was a 50/50 draw with proceeds going to STARS. The total amount raised was $1,480.00. STARS received $740 and the winner of the 50/50 draw was Glen Ell from Springfield Pathfinders and he generously donated his share to STARS. The entertainment was magician Alex Jay Hamm and the show was enjoyed by all.

Congradulations to all!
A big thank you to our event sponsors, booth holders, and to those who donated prizes for the raffle and silent auction.
Snoman would like to thank the many volunteers for their hard work and dedication to maintaining club trails and shelters, and all landowners who have partnered with their local club to ensure that snowmobilers can continue to enjoy our scenic trail system.
Remember to be safe, responsible and have fun during this riding season.
It looks like winter is here with temperatures constantly below 0 and with the ground covered in snow. All we need now is another foot of snow. There is a lot of activity at the club level as clubs get equipment ready, trail sign and shelters ready for another season. We have to be thankful that clubs have many dedicated volunteers that work hard to ensure everything is ready for the upcoming season.
This year Snoman has a new integrated provincial trail map on the Snoman website.
Why The Change In Maps
Over the years we have had many concerns and complaints about the old map system, snowmobilers stated they want to be able to plan trips, determine mileage between points, and have services locations identified. In addition, they want to be able to look at one map and determine what trails are open and the status of the trails.
The new interactive trail map will provide the following new features:
- You will be able to view the status of all trails on one provincial map;
- You will be able to zoom into areas/regions of the map for better details;
- You will be able to obtain distances between points and plan trips;
- By selecting icons you will be able to determine what services a community offers such as gas, food and accommodations;
- There will be club icons, selecting that icon will give you information about the club and will provide links to the club’s website & facebook page; and
Trail status will be as follows:
1. Red trails are closed
2. Green trails are open and have been groomed within the past five days, and
3. Yellow trails are open but have not been groomed in the past five days.
The new map is now active on the Snoman website simply by clicking on maps & trails and then click on INTERACTIVE MAP/TRAIL STATUS. We would like to hear your comments or suggestions about the new map so you can send them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last season there were more snowmobile fatalities in Manitoba than we have seen in a number of years. Excess speed was the contributing factor in most of the fatalities. In order to bring awareness to snowmobilers of this issue posters will be in club shelters reminding snowmobilers speed does not always get you to your destination or home to your family. Please SLOW DOWN, drive responsibly and to the conditions of the trail.
I’m looking forward to a great season, hope to see you on the trail, have fun, ride safe and ride sober
